Pollution, climate change and changes in our lifestyle affect the air around us, which can impact our health. Lisa van de Heuvel has investigated three methods to improve air quality, using natural resources as her inspiration. She calls the resulting series ‘Aer’: adsorb, evaporate, release. Her pendant filters made with activated charcoal adsorb chemicals and odours. When water containing sea salt evaporates, the steam can open up our airways and clean the skin. And finally, when released into the air we breathe, the beneficial qualities of certain bacteria found in soil can improve the immune system.
