Animals have miraculous ways of transforming themselves. In response to their environment they will be able to change their size or make their skin, fur, or feathers change colour or texture. It will help them make an impression on their fellow animals or seduce them, or it will help them blend into their environment. Camille Cortet’s fabrics and accessories have been inspired by these qualities: a turned-up collar will imitate the bird of paradise and a pair of tights will become like a snake’s skin. In her book Transformations Cortet demonstrates how man and animals are closer in kind than you would think and shows the former slowly slipping into the latter’s skin.
